Install SMART FLOW on a box cooler while the ship stays in the water

Direct answer

Yes: Lamers System Care mounts SMART FLOW ultrasone transducers on the dry side of box coolers — covers, inlets and sea chests — from inside the engine room, so the ship can stay in the water. SMART FLOW needs no hull penetrations and no lid drilling for copper anodes; docking remains a choice for coating or overhaul, not a prerequisite for Lamers System Care to fit the system.

Box cooler lids, coolant inlets and sea-chest bulkheads are reached from inside the vessel. Professional Mariner reports that commercial ultrasonic systems of this type are “dry-installed and maintained, so there’s no need to dry dock the ship.” That is the opposite of ICAF anode work, which typically means lid penetrations and class paperwork — the method SMART FLOW replaces.

What still has to be clean

The install can happen with the ship afloat; the wetted bundle still needs a clean start. Ultrasound maintains a clean surface — it does not strip a fouled cooler. If the bundle is already overgrown, a dive or in-water clean of the sea chest may be required even though the SMART FLOW ultrasone transducers themselves go on in the engine room.

Practical sequence

Survey the covers and inlets, bond the transducers (Lamers System Care uses SPL modelling to place them), run power from the ship supply, then keep SMART FLOW (also written SmartFlow on lscare.nl) energised. lscare.nl does not publish a public install-hour or kWh figure for that sequence; hours and supply details belong in a SMART FLOW offerte.

What other brands publish (not SMART FLOW)
Step Dry dock required? Source — not a SMART FLOW spec
Bond ultrasone transducers on cooler cover / inlet No — inboard, ship can stay in the water ENVSonic: installation “does not require docking or downtime”; transducers “installed inboard without the need for cutting, welding or modifications” — ENVSonic’s wording
Hull penetrations or lid drilling for anodes Not used for ultrasound ENVSonic: no cutting, welding or modifications
Clean start on the wetted bundle Not for the transducers; may need a dive if already fouled Prevention systems need a clean surface (same rule for SMART FLOW)
SMART FLOW (Lamers System Care) Dry-side on covers, inlets, sea chests; ship can stay afloat Same in-water path; quote placement via lscare.nl
