Patrol vessel RWS fouling free after one year and two months

Eco Friendly and Sustainable Antifouling Solutions

Following the particularly positive results on the RWS 78, the RWS 79 has also remained fouling-free. In September 2019 Lamers System Care B.V. completed its second installation for Rijkswaterstaat. More than 1 year later, the seawater cooling system of this patrol vessel was inspected, which yielded an astonishing result. The inlets have remained completely free of fouling.

The Dutch coastal and inland waters are rich in organisms such as algae and larvae of mussels, which can develop in a short time into a major problem for vessels in various areas. In the past, Rijkswaterstaat has had a lot of trouble with its patrol vessels from fouling in its cooling system, which meant that the engines could not get rid of their heat properly. This is at the expense of efficiency and useful life of the engines. The pipework therefore had to be cleaned regularly to keep the engines in good condition. This results in unnecessarily high, structural costs.

Lamers System Care B.V. was assigned by shipyard De Haas Maassluis to install the Ultrasonic Anti-Fouling System (SH08) on the seawater inlets, seaweed pots and crossover. In this way, the seawater cooling system is fully protected and the pipes and engines remain in top condition. In this way, recurring cooling problems on the RWS 79 have come to an end.

Lamers System Care B.V. is happy to have a returning customer in Rijkswaterstaat who is satisfied with the result! LSC hopes to be able to provide the environmentally friendly solution to the fouling problem also in the future.
